I have decided to look at the Penguin Random house brief to redesign the cover for the book 'Wonder by R.J.Palacio.
The book is story about a young boy who is just starting mainstream education. The boy also happens to have a cranio facial disorder which he feels very self conscious about. The story is about friendship, kindness and recognising the beauty in people despite their differences.
I have chosen to focus on this brief because it fits in well with my theme for this year. It also is a good book in that it has encouraged children and adults alike to see beyond how people look and has been an interesting topic of conversation amongst the target audience with many positive reviews from people who live with a cranio facial disorder.
I do face the challenge of having to design the cover either without the main character or with the character but not showing his facial features fully. The back cover states 'My name is August. I won't describe how I look. whatever your thinking, it's probably worse'. This could be an interesting challenge.
I look forward to get started on my research and development of the cover design over the next few months :)
